Mission Statement
Whereas; most New Yorkers believe that the free market forces of business and commerce, properly regulated, provide a foundation for a vibrant economy that creates jobs, spurs investment, protects consumers, generates tax revenue and protects the future of our state; and
Whereas; proposals that seek to create yet another layer of costly government bureaucracy, should be opposed by a broad coalition of taxpayers, consumers and those who embrace the forces of private enterprise and free markets; and
Whereas; such a proposal would destroy the Title Insurance industry, rely on demonstrably false assumptions, and depend upon the profoundly mistaken belief that more government is the means of addressing the state’s current fiscal crisis; and
Whereas: such an action, modeled after a law in Iowa, would increase the cost of every mortgage made by citizens of New York by thousands of dollars over the life of the loan; and
Whereas; such an action would endanger or destroy thousands of private sector jobs, remove a half billion dollar industry from the private sector;
NOW THEREFORE, do we, a broad coalition of legal, real estate, consumer and free market leadership throughout the state, hereby announce the formation of
New York Taxpayers for Economic Justice
Our partnership of concerned citizens was created for the purpose of confronting and defeating destructive legislative proposals that would add to the burden of the homeowners and taxpayers, potentially eliminate the careers of thousands of private sector employees, unravel the fabric of free enterprise and place real estate buyers and sellers throughout New York into the hands of a new state bureaucracy.
This coalition is open to all who share our mission, our commitment to private enterprise, our opposition to a costly expansion of government and our common belief that the strongest government is that which depends on the creation of private sector jobs and thereby creates and sustains real growth and economic justice. |
